BiographyEl pagnier Kay Hudson, “EK”, has been part of the Human Resources industry for over 26 years. As Vice President for Human Resources at Florida International University, EK is responsible for strategic and innovative leadership of the Division of Human Resources and oversees all twelve discipline-specific areas of HR including, but not limited to: employee and labor relations, employee engagement initiatives, and the office of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access. In addition to managing an $800 million payroll, EK also exercises fiduciary responsibility in managing a $30 million operational budgets for the entire Division of Human Resources. With students being the primary focus of FIU, she has a key role in our Career Ready Initiative which ensures our student employees have meaningful, marketable work experiences as well as are connected to full-time employment upon graduation. Additionally, she is leading several strategic initiatives including the university’s commitment to ensuring our administrative and staff employees are able to champion the fast pace of change that advanced technologies are creating in the workplace. She is also credited with several programs that promote a rewarding and positive work environment, which has led to FIU earning the Chronicle of Higher Education’s Honor Roll distinction of “Great College to Work for” for three consecutive years. As a collaborator on the state level, she currently serves as a Board Member for the Florida Chapter of the College and University Professional Association (CUPA-HR), and is also past-Chair for the College and University HR Executives (CUHRE) Consortium where she still leads on HR matters with HR Executives from all state universities in Florida. Additionally, she serves as Chair for the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s HR and Professional Development Committee responsible for educating the member-businesses and organizations to strengthen their strategic HR impact in the greater Miami area and beyond.
